So I am still here in the airport and a pilot was sitting next to me. He was complaining that the speed of the airport wifi was too slow, I showed him the speed of my connection….

In any event, he was flying to Scotland and he was packing up.

I was wondering, as he was packing up, if I say, “have a safe flight,” to this pilot.

I mean, he is the one flying the plane and maybe, he would be insulted if I said that.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t be insulted if someone told me to drive carefully, before I drove somewhere.

Gary Price and I are IMing and he suggested I just say, “have a good trip.” 🙂

    That sucks!

Some airlines Suck and other airlines are almost always on-time.

However… I remember that On-time performance of the airline and other customer service issues like % of flight cancellations & % of bags lost is not one of the factors you consider when purchasing travel. (Price only)

Do you feel the purchase price of the ticket cheap enough to compensate you for your loss of your time?

I hope everything else works out and you have a safe trip.

    Hay Barry,
You should file a complaint. Travel is expensive and punctuality is part of the deal.

You don’t even like to wait for the elevator, I can imagine how frustrating it must be for you to loose about an hour and a half because the flight crew was late for work.

Sometimes these things keep going down hill until enough complaints are filed. At that point, they will do something to improve.

On the other hand… If no one complained… Everyone must have been happy.

So… Here is how to do it.

Just email the The Aviation Consumer Protection Division (ACPD)

Be brief and concise in the description of your problem and be sure to include the following information:

    Your name
Daytime phone number (including area code)
    Name of the airline
    Flight date
    Flight number
Origin & destination cities of your flight

Not very many people will actually file a complaint with the DOT. Because of this fact… Just a few complaints in one month can cause the DOT ranking for an airline to drop like a rock.

They score airlines by complaints, per 100,000 passengers.

Last month ATA had the second worst complaint ratio of 1.52% from a grand total of 3 (Yes, Three) complaints out of 198,006 Passengers.

They were ranked 19 out of 20 major airlines.

As you can see, your one complaint can make a big difference.

I’m not making this stuff up. This is where you can see how the DOT ranks airlines for customer service.

Complaints are taken seriously. (As they should be)

I actually do get insulted when told to drive carefully/safely – particularly when I’m driving with my wife and/or daughter. What do people think I’m going to do – drive like a maniac? And if I were going to do that, would I suddenly change my mind because they told me to?

I usually say “safe drive” as opposed to the more usual “drive safe” – a small change, but more respectful of the subject’s good sense and ability.
