comcast-logo.gifPorn played on Disney Channel in N.J. from the AP newswire tells an unusual story.

5 year old boy watching cartoon on the Disney Channel. All of a sudden, porn comes on. The kid continues watching. Father walks in. Notices porn. Dad looks at the channel and notices this porn is airing on the Disney Channel.

Customer Paul Dunleavy would also like to know. He was stunned Tuesday morning to find his 5-year-old son watching something other than “Handy Manny,” a cartoon about a bilingual Latino handyman and his talking tools.

“It was two people doing their thing, it was full-on and it was disgusting,” the Middletown father of three told The New York Daily News for Wednesday newspapers. “I couldn’t believe it.”

This issue was confirmed as a “programming error” which occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday. It was isolated to “a local New Jersey facility,” the article says.

“My son was extremely upset because he thought he’d done something wrong,” Paul Dunleavy, Comcast Cable customer.

it ever happen in my country, where it’s a moeslim country, where pornography is illegal.. and of the staff watching porn VCD on the live studio… and accidetally swith the on air button… it was live show for almost an hour before they realized that it’s on air, most of people just enjoy the free porn, which that time the internet was not arround, so it’s pretty difficult to get a porn movies.

the goverment almost close the tv company, but they manage to be out of the problem… but many of the moeslim community is very upset about it, even they had a few minutes to enjoy the rare program.

Are you kidding? I’m sure this guy doesn’t find sex disgusting…..he is probably disgusted that some moron in a control room would find it funny to put porn on the Disney Channel. You’re crazy for calling this guy self righteous.

As a parent, I rely on “safe” channels like Disney and Noggin, I too find this mistake disgusting and the content probably was gross and completely inappropriate for kids.

I hope the person responsible is out of a job, it is a pretty serious mistake. Disney can very easily be sued over this….they promise a channel for kids, that parents can feel safe having their kids watch….this wasn’t the case in the situation. Hopefully, the guy moves on but he probably would have a pretty damaging case.

I am surprised by the number of insensitive and uninformed posts.

How many kids were exposed to this? Do the parents even know?

This is an extremely serious issue and the senior management at Comcast should at least be held financially liable for both the psychological damage to the children and families exposed.

Since some people think this is come kind of purposeful “prank”, then Comcast and it’s employees should be investigated by the attorney general for criminal child endangerment.

If they can find 1 suck individual who did this on purpose, and it turns out he exposed thousands of little kids to this, then should lock him up in a hard core prison for a very long time (Lets’ say a modest 30 day sentence for each kid exposed — served consecutively — that should just about do it)

If Comcast wants to make money off porn, then they need put in the proper checks and balances to ensure they don’t expose small children do this.

Just because a kid is watching a TV show on Disney does not mean the parent is using the TV as a babysitter. Disney markets itself as a channel kids can watch without seeing anything graphic or violent.

Since you are obviously not a parent…you can not judge how people raise their kids….you have no experience.

I work in television and have talked to a lot of parents who DO NOT control what their kids watch. Many parents would call to complain that they can’t believe we run Jerry Springer or (at the time) Ricki Lake…..and my first question to them was why they were letting their kids watch it in the first place….they usually hung up or would go off on a verbal tirade about what an f*&%in a hole I was, then would tell me their kids are learning this awful language from these shows…..sorta funny can’t say the F work on broadcast television.

My point there are A LOT of parents who do NOT take control of their TV, but this guy is NOT one of them. He believed Disney….which promises quality childrens programming.

What I’m afraid of my kid accidentally seeing is all the gratuitous violence we see way more of on tv than sex (so his watching is monitored closely). Think about it. What’s a more natural part of life, sex or violence? We can survive as a species without violence but not sex. Sadly, our society seems to think all the murders we see on tv daily are good family entertainment. So taking life is fine but (possibly) creating it is dirty and wrong. Even seeing the body parts involved is bad. Hmmm. No wonder all these kids are shooting up their schools these days.

OMG! There is so much wrong with so many of the posts here!

Porn….Hello most of us do not have porn sex all of the time. There is a difference between walking in on mom and dad and the camera angles of a porn movie.

The kid probably felt confused but the Dad most definitly made the kid feel “wrong”.

And nobody…”let their 5 year old watch porn” WTF! it was a prank…a severly misguided and a tad bit cruel, prank. It was purposeful and spiteful and got a hell of a lot of attention.

No one will die from seeing the porn…the worst case is the kid will be insterested in sex early or maybe not at all.

As far as a warped sense of sexuality….I think you can go to the mall and develop that.

lawsuit?? I guess, but how will the damage be gaged? by the fathers reation? then they would have to asses his psycological state before and after the viewing. COuld that be done?
Or should they wait until the kid grows up and find out how it effected him, if at all and the proceed?

Lots of questions in there….lots of spelling errors too i bet.

Just because a child is watching television when this happens does not having anything to do with a television being a babysitter. Grow up idiots! Why the frick aren’t you outside at 9:30 in the morning instead of sitting your ass in front of your damn computer!

Typical format for a Disney movie: isolate the protagonist within the first 10 minutes by killing off the parent(s) or having them abducted by cruel or evil antagonist. Spend an hour maturing the protagonist during which he/she meets seemingly insignificant individuals that show the protagonist how great he/she is. Finish with the film with an epic and violent struggle wherein the protagonist overcomes and defeats the antagonist, usually by exacting revenge or sending the antagonist into exile and isolation. But sex is bad.

I’m not saying 5-year-olds should watch porn, but if you draw a line, make it reasonable.

Wow, it’s amazing how many people are attacking other people’s comments. All people wanted to say is that ONE episode of porn isn’t bad for a kid if he doesn’t know what’s going on. I’ll admit that I don’t remember most things unless my parents made a big deal out of it.

ONE episode of porn won’t warp a child. Continuous watching of it or actually practicing it is another thing. Maybe it was a mistake, maybe it was a bad joke. Either way, if they parent had just made out that it wasn’t a big deal but it shouldn’t be done, the kid would have actually learned a lesson instead of being “scared”.

BTW, no kids shouldn’t see porn but naked bodies are (in my mind) better for a little kid to see that violence. Yes, I bet you your kids see violence. Watch the cartoons once in a while. Even the most childish of shows usually has a bad guy, in which they must have done something wrong. All these parents complaining just shows how much they are sheltering their kid while trying to use TV. One or the other. Get over it.

My opinion, some sick pervert got an Idea in his head, “OOH IF I R PUT TEH PRONZ ON DIZNEY CHANEL I WIL BE UBAR L33T HAXORZ!” and off he went, putting images in a small child’s brain, that had NO BUISINESS being there.

Actually, this is a huge deal, and it is sickening to see some of the responses here

Child sexual abuse, child exploitation, and endangerment of children are extremely serious matters.

The medical and psychological community recognize that sexualizing children at a very young age is extremely detrimental to their healthy psychological development…

It is exactly because of the kinds of responses here that the penalties have to be so stiff…it is impossible to have a resonable argument with people who are so stupid that they think exposing little kids to hard to core is funny…

There is a huge difference between adults watching or having consensual sex and forcing a small child to watch hard core porn. I am also sure a few of the jerks this it would be funny to force sex on a little kid–it happens all the time

If someone at Comcast did this on purpose, they should be locked up for a long time.

Ya the kid didnt know something was wrong until his father freaked out….word to all those who have kids….DONT FREAK OUT AND DISPLAY DISGUST, SIT YOUR KID DOWN AND TELL HIM ABOUT SEX. In european countries, comprehensive sex education starts early….probably why they have a lower std rate and lower teen pregnancy than us here in the states.

Kudos to Charles Martin and Benito…..Especially Benito…..it’s good to see that there might just be a few kids left in this world that have a few morals. I may be a mom of two but I am not that old. I understand that this kind of perversion is accepted in todays society….but that does not mean that I have to like it or condone it. It’s good to know that some people still believe in values.
I hope the peoples children who saw this are going to pull together and kick some comcast butt…..legally of course…

everyone realizes that there is a difference between two married people having sex to conceive a child and porn, right? because I’m pretty sure you can’t compare the two. sure, I have sex. and I still think porn is pretty disgusting. taking sex out of the bedroom and mass producing it to sell to the public. you’re morons if you don’t get the difference.

That’s the bottom line isn’t it? Sex in the privacy of the bedroom is completely different than pornographic material. My hubby and I are very sexual people but seeing someone else do it literally makes me queezy in my stomach.

To the rest of you who think this is remotely okay:
Stop blasting a father for trying to be a good dad and keeping his child innocent for a little longer. If it weren’t for people like you this world would be a much easier, wonderful, safer place to live.

These comments are sad and show how people have become morally degraded. That experience could have traumatized this child for life and made sex something more than it should be, as it is for most avid viewers of pornography and their twisted ideas about sexuality.

Ive raised 3 kids, more or less, on my own (you know what i mean).

Unfortunatly, morales and whos right or wrong isnt really the issue . The father contacted Comcast and bitched. GOOD! thats what anyone SHOULD have done…after watching some of the free porn first. The father also bitched at the son. BAD! now hes scarred and probably wont get laid at all in highschool. The issue is as simple as that. Why do some people make jokes? because they can. This really isnt a serious enough issue to do anything else but make jokes. To all you so called “parents” who think it is, get a fuking clue. If the article had said “the father found out, destroyed the tv, and punished his son” then i’d say lets talk serious. But really, all that happend is some jokester at Comcast decided to jack off one last time before getting canned.

  76. charles martin
    Reply

The issue here has nothing to do whether porn is good or bad, or how the father reacted, or whether TV is good or bad for kids.

The issue that a very serious crime occurred. Showing hard core pornography to a child is a crime. It is a crime because it can be traumatic. It is a crime because children have a right not to be exploited. It is a crime because pedophiles show porn to kids to make them more receptive to their advances.

If a teacher at school was showing hard core porn to a first grader, would that be “funny”? Would it be the parent’s fault for not home schooling them? Hell no–the teacher would be hauled off to jail for a long time. Hell, it it were me, I would execute the bastard, raise him from the dead, and execute him again.

This is nothing like a kid walking in on his parents having sex. If you choose to have sex when your kids are home, this might happen–and I am sure it happens all the time.

This is very different. It seems quite plausible that someone forced this child to view hard core porn–and that’s very serious crime!

Both Comcast and the Attorney General have a specific responsibility to determine exactly why this happened. And it was a prankster, they should hunt down this animal and prosecute him to the full extent of the law. After all, . he assaulted an innocent child.

  77. Oh man...
    Reply

The complaining-parent-commenters here do KNOW that the immature posts are there for sarcasm and satire, right?
I doubt that’s how they really feel about the issue, but they feel no need to respond with anything meaningful.

    Anyways, here’s what I think.
I would try to stay fairly calm about it, because I wouldn’t want to scare the poor kid. Just simply turn it off, and save the hysterics for later. The drama you create could be more traumatizing than the image itself.

alot of what is being said is true, and alot is just a bit too far.

look, what happenned was terrible, theres no denying it. BUT

    a) a father cant spend all his time with his children. I have one young child, and i have to enlist the help of his older brother to keep a constant eye on him. and yes, the tv too! it’s terrible, i want to be with him all the time, but i also NEED to get dinner ready, get clothes washed, get beds made and all manner of things.

    b) with the benefit of hindsight, yes, maybe that father DID react poorly. but without time to think about it what else can you do? if i walked in, YES i would rush and turn the tv and shout a little and worry and fuss and interrogate him over how long it had been on, why? because its important! he’s my son and the first instinct i have is his immediate safety. afterwards we can talk about future effects and whatnot, but at the time do you really think of that?

    c) yeah its terrible. but death threats? i am shocked to see them. it was an awful thing but the world is awful chaps. we all experienced something or things in our childhood that shocked us. scared and scarred us a little. its part of development, something along the lines of a 2 year old eating something off the ground and subsequently developing his immune system. make no mistake i am NOT condoning it, but lets at least try to take some good from it. to the fool who said now he wont get laid in high school – why would a father want his son to get laid in high school? obviously you never did, because trust me, getting drunk and down with some girl is something i personally went through, and it doesnt feel good. not to mention the chance of diseases and unwanted pregnancies, maybe a little early shock against sex is going to be useful in counteracting the MTV effect he will go through when he gets to his teen years.

Hehe. I remember something like that happening to me when I was a kid. I was watching this movie (cant remember what) with my younger sister. I was probably around 7 or 8 at that time, at most.

Was watching this movie… then there was a stripshow (if memory serves). Hehe my mom freaked.

But I turned out fine, I think.

On hindsight, maybe if my parents haven’t put this image of girls/sex = bad into my mind, maybe I would’ve gotten laid by now.

    Shit.

If “you’re” going to be immature and make fun of someone for being what you incorrectly reason is their stupidity, please spare yourself some dignity and use correct grammar.

Everything reasonable about this case has already been said, but only by the mature readers and those who agree with the sentiment that this is a serious issue and that someone should be facing harsh punishment for it.

The ONLY thing that could make this remotely funny to a level-headed person is if you’re a fan of irony and/or shock value. Even still, you should be able to recognize that it’s not okay for it to have happened.

Look, I understand the concern some of the parents have. BUT: The fact is all those who are saying it’s wrong to force hardcore porn on a child is not right. Fair enough, well then you obviously havn’t read the article. It was a porn cartoon. Granted, this doesn’t make it right, but then again it doesn’t make it hardcore porn either.

I can almost guarantee you that the kid didn’t understand what was going on at such an early age. And because of that he may have been slightly intrigued, but overall would not have paid much notice.
UNTIL the father went and made a big deal about it.

Okay, I understand people complaining to comcast, but that does not help the children. The way I understand it, the program was removed within minutes, and so getting angry, exposing the children to arguments / etc. after the issue has come and gone should have no place in this world. The best thing would have to either been to ignore the cartoon and change the channel for the kid, got him to do/play something else fun with you or simply tell him that it was an adult thing and explain the situation.
GETTING ANGRY WITH ANYONE IS THE VERY LAST THING THAT SHOULD HAPPEN. THIS WOULD AFFECT HIM 100% MORE THAN THAT PROGRAM – HE WOULD HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT MORE OR LESS, OR SIMPLY PUT IT DOWN TO NOTHING IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO REMEMBER – THE ISSUE IS AND WAS WITH THE PARENTS’ REACTION TO ALL THIS…

I am completely sane, I don’t have any weird fetishes, I am “Normal” if that’s what you wish to call it. You have all been programmed to believe a natural activity is EEEEEVVIIILL z0mg.
