American Express LogoI got a letter over the weekend from my new favorite company, American Express.

They politely informed me that they have credited my account $233.00 for the claim I filed over my iPhone. $33 more than I had initially expected, was credited to me based on the “Purchase Protection Plan.” In fact, AMEX noted the credit as a “GOODWILL CREDIT:PURCHASE PROT CLAIM” on the statement.

Not only did a get $233 back from AMEX, in pure cash. I also got a $100 credit from Apple for the iPhone purchase.

So the iPhone that cost me $599 now cost $333 less, or $266. that is about $35 less than it costs to buy an iPhone now. Pretty sweet.

Now who is looking smart?

I’m looking smart. Thanks for noticing. Yep, me… the one who realizes a phone is for talking and it’ll be replaced in a couple years, so the free ones work just fine. :)

One could question the ethical implications of this refund whirlwind since, truthfully, you should have only gotten back $133 dollars from Amex since your ACTUAL cost from Apple was only $499 after the $100 “rebate”.

    Ethically Challenged,

That is a good point. But technically, I would have had $200 back in my pocket, as opposed to a “credit” to use at an Apple Store. There is a big difference.

But I hear you. Heck, I pay $400 or so for this AMEX card for years now, them giving me $233 is not a big deal when looking at the big picture.
